Sensory Systems Toolkit
Many autistic children and young people experience the world differently due to differences in how their sensory systems process information.. A classroom that feels typical to one child may feel overwhelming, distracting, or even distressing to another. When sensory needs are not understood or supported, this can impact a learner’s ability to feel safe, regulate their emotions, engage in learning and communicate effectively.
We have developed this toolkit to support schools in creating inclusive, autism-friendly environments that recognise and respond to the sensory needs of all learners.
The resources provide a practical and structured way to review the classroom environment, focusing on small, realistic adjustments that can make a meaningful difference to a pupil’s daily experience.
