Ruardean Church of England Primary School is an inclusive school. Having a specialist Communication and Interaction Centre attached to the mainstream school, means that pupils in this school develop tolerance and acceptance. All pupils, including those with ‘Additional Needs’ are respected and valued members of our school community. The Communication and Interaction Centre (CIC) is a specialist provision for pupils with autism and/or severe to profound communication difficulties. The CIC can take up to 10 pupils, from across the Forest of Dean. The CIC is staffed by a specialist teacher and 3 full-time specialist teaching assistants. Admission to the CIC is decided by the C&I Panel, which meets regularly throughout the year. A child must have a statement or be undergoing Statutory Assessment. Reports are required from an Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist and a C&I Advisory Teacher. The CIC offers a structured teaching environment, an emphasis upon social skills, an emphasis upon stress and anxiety management, small step teaching where language and communication targets are integrated into daily planning, integration into mainstream as appropriate.
