An Evening That Reminded Us Why Early Support Matters

26th May 2026

There were moments during BeyondAutism’s Casino Night when the room fell completely silent.

Not because the roulette wheel had stopped or the auction had ended, because parents stood up and shared what life had really felt like before they found support.

One parent spoke about feeling as though she was “drowning in isolation”. Another described the exhaustion of constantly fighting to be heard whilst trying to support their autistic child through systems that often felt overwhelming and inaccessible.

These were not polished speeches. They were honest reflections from families who know first-hand how difficult the early years can feel when answers, support and understanding are hard to find.

That is why this evening mattered.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, supported, donated and volunteered, Casino Night raised more than £35,000 for BeyondAutism’s Early Years service. Combined with the recent Miles for Milestones Camino challenge, almost £50,000 has now been raised in just a few weeks during our 25th anniversary year.

For us, the fundraising total tells only part of the story.

The real impact of the evening came from hearing what early support can mean for a family. Parents spoke about rebuilding confidence, feeling less alone, learning how to advocate for their child and beginning to imagine a future that once felt uncertain.

Those conversations are a reminder that early support is not only about education or intervention. It is about helping families feel seen, informed and hopeful again.

Throughout the evening, supporters, trustees, corporate partners, volunteers and families came together with a shared belief that autistic children and young adults deserve access to education and support that helps them belong, succeed and shape their own future.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the night possible, including Battersea Arts Centre and our event partners Koolatron, ITA Solutions, South London Jazz Orchestra, Airway Interline, Axcis Recruitment, Amarante London, Private Cellar and Widgit.

Most of all, we want to thank the families who chose to share their stories so openly and honestly. Their voices were the heart of the evening.
