Empowering People, Launching lives
BeyondAutism Post-19 works with professionals, businesses and organisations to meet the individual needs of its students.
We believe that our students should have a varied schedule that provides multiple learning opportunities. Every student spends around 50% of their time being taught in the community, this includes areas local to their home. This enables our students to build relationships with their local organisations and become part of their own community. Students learn the skills where they need to be used, reducing the need for generalising skills from a traditional classroom setting.
Our Learning Hub is based within Yarrow, a social care provider for adults with learning disabilities. Working alongside Yarrow has provided an opportunity for collaborative working, sharing of expertise and creating further links.
All students take part in regular work experience. These opportunities provide an environment for students to transfer and generalise skills, learn new vocational specific skills, as well as experience a vocational area they may wish to pursue further. Examples of placements have included an environmental science provision, a soup kitchen, café and care centre.
Alongside work experience, our students take part in a variety of health and wellbeing sessions. These include regular visits to the gym or swimming pool, dance and movement groups, as well as rock climbing and arts groups.
Our partner and community links contribute to our student’s ‘ideal week’, bespoke to their individual needs and interests.
