Empowering People, Launching lives
I first found out about ABA while working at a camp in the U.S. for children with emotional and behavioural disorders. After university I moved to London to come and work at BeyondAutism and have since pursued a career in ABA with the organisation.
I started working at the secondary school and am now working as a Supervisor in the Post-19 service. On a typical day I check up on student progress and behaviour graphs and then go and work with the Tutors to make changes to how we teach those targets they are finding more difficult. I write targets each term for students and develop their behaviour plan and have lots of meetings with parents and other professionals.
My favourite part of the job is seeing the students making progress with targets when I have implemented a change to the programme. It is wonderful when I get to see the students out in the community at work experience putting into practice all the skills they have learnt.
Having worked with some of the students for several years it’s great to see their journey from the classroom to living in their own flat and gaining work experience. It’s such a privilege, it’s why we do what we do.
